My name is Markeda Tymes. I was born and raised in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, PA. My love for music and art started incredibly young as a dancer in multiple genres, including ballet, tap, African, modern, and jazz. I have since put that passion into other facets as I got older. From being a cheerleading coach to volunteering each year for many projects that help uplift the community, from back-to-school bookbag drives to turkey dinners.
I am a part of Practicing Musician because I knew what music/arts brought to those who did not have an alternative or outlet. Growing up since the age of 7, I was around my great Aunt, former state Senator Shirley Kitchen of Pennsylvania, and programs like this are needed in the community and schools. Coming upon a Practicing Musician, I want kids to have what I had as a child—a positive outlet and creative expression at their fingertips.
In my free time, I love traveling, experiencing diverse cultures as much as possible, and cooking. I will find a new recipe and cook it, and if my family loves it, I will master it and add it to my cookbook. Besides food and traveling, I have also fallen in love with fashion over the years. Going to catholic school for 12 years and wearing uniforms, I dress as if the world is my runway.
