Hi! My name is Jordan – Independent Sales Representative at Practicing Musician.
When I first learned of Practicing Musician and its dedication to equity in Music Education, my thought was simply… “It’s about time!”
I am so excited to be a part of this journey to make learning music available to more and more people worldwide every day. Coming from a family of educators, I knew from a young age that music was integral to retaining knowledge and adding color to all subjects. From the time we learn the ABCs, educators use music to trigger memories and create positive moments that can last a lifetime.
I always wanted to get closer to music. At the age of 10, I got my first drum set. From there, I migrated to the acoustic guitar, then the electric bass. However, the instrument I use mostly today is the most portable one of all, my voice. As I got older, I wanted to deeply understand why music seemed so critical to our overall wellness. With perspective now as a father of 5 beautiful children, it couldn’t be more clear how music lifts the spirits and refocuses the mind. Listening to the right combination of notes in a song can help us stay grounded and be positive even in the darkest of times. The closer we get to music, the more ways we can benefit from it, especially when we take the step to learn how to play an instrument.
As a parent, I also realize how the modern child’s brain processes information differently than when I was a child. With ever-shortening attention spans being fed endless 5-second soundbites, sitting down to learn the nuances of playing the clarinet for an hour is a huge challenge for young and old learners alike. This is why at Practicing Musician, we have dedicated years of research-based efforts to provide music lessons that are not only accessible to everyone but also effective, focused (10-minute sessions!), and fun.
Hopefully, one day soon, our efforts will lead to music being considered by educational institutions worldwide as a mandatory, official second language. But until that day arrives, let’s march to the beat of our own drum and take it one lesson at a time!
