250 Express: An American Piano Journey

We're excited to announce that Practicing Musician is presenting 250 Express: An American Piano Journey — a one-of-a-kind concert celebrating America's musical heritage as part of the United States Semiquincentennial.

The evening is structured as a musical train journey, with each piece serving as a station stop along 250 years of American musical history. From the wide-open energy of Copland's Hoe-Down to the intimate brilliance of Barber and the modernist pulse of Glass, this program captures the full breadth of what American composers have imagined at the piano.

Meet the Pianists

This concert features two of North Idaho's most celebrated pianists — longtime collaborators who bring deep musical scholarship and genuine joy to everything they perform together.

Melody Puller
Pianist · Chair of Piano, Music Conservatory of Sandpoint

A North Idaho pianist, teacher, and poet based in Spirit Lake, Idaho, Melody holds a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Idaho. A frequent guest on Spokane Public Radio's The Piano Bench, she has performed for audiences across the Pacific Northwest for many years, bringing warmth, depth, and remarkable musical insight to every program.

Dr. Matt Goodrich
Pianist · Director of Performance, Music Conservatory of Sandpoint

A graduate of Oberlin College Conservatory with a DMA from the University of Washington, Dr. Goodrich has performed with Pacific Northwest Ballet, the 5th Avenue Theatre, Northwest Boychoir, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. His dissertation explored the life of one of the 20th century's most enigmatic performers — bringing the same spirit of discovery to everything he programs.

Together, Puller and Goodrich have built a reputation for imaginative, deeply researched programs that bring new life to both beloved classics and forgotten masterworks — and the 250 Express is no exception.
