As an oboe and bassoon specialist and graduate teaching associate, my current focus is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at Ohio State University. Originally from Mandan, North Dakota, academic achievements include graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from The University of Mary (Bismarck, ND), and earning a master’s in Music Performance from Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS). At Ohio State, research interests include expanding on master’s level work studying oboe music written by East Asian composers and East Asian double reed instruments.
Professional experience includes serving as associate-principal oboe/English horn in the Salina Symphony Orchestra, along with performances with the Bismarck Mandan Symphony Orchestra, The Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra, West River Winds, the Bismarck Mandan Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Smoky Valley Chamber Ensemble. Notable solo performances include the Mozart Oboe Concerto with the Bismarck Mandan Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Marcello Oboe Concerto with the University of Mary String Ensemble and Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Seven years of private teaching experience combined with two years as a Graduate Teaching Associate have provided opportunities to work with students aged 6 to 25 at varying skill levels. Teaching philosophy centers on meeting students where they are in their musical journey to create an enriching learning environment and help them meet their musical and academic goals. Joining The Practicing Musician team offers an exciting opportunity to continue this passion for teaching.
Outside of teaching, practicing, and reed-making, favorite activities include hiking, crocheting and spending time with my cat Gladys.
