Why Teach for Practicing Musician?
Practicing Musician believes traditional 30- or 60-minute private lessons need an update. Why?
- Memory: Many students have trouble committing new techniques or theory concepts to memory due to the length of longer lessons.
- Reinforcement: Students often practice incorrect techniques because they don’t have proper modeling while practicing at home – leaving you with the difficult task of helping them undo bad habits.
- Cost: The average cost of private lessons nationwide is $60 per hour, which is much too expensive for many students – especially when they have to learn and relearn the same technique or concept for multiple weeks.
So we designed a micro tutoring model based on the most recent neurological and educational research to help save everyone time and save parents and students money without reducing teachers’ compensation.
At a high level, our micro tutoring model is very simple:
- Assign: First, you facilitate student learning by assigning our free online tutorials, assignments, and compositions. Expert musicians create all materials, so it’s like each student has a private teacher in their home.
- Learn: Second, students learn and practice on their own time, rewatching excellent modeling via tutorials as required to ensure full comprehension and minimize bad practice habits at no additional charge.
- Feedback: Third, you provide feedback to students during their next 10-minute micro session to ensure they stay on track; then, the process repeats.
